Inside Detroit

Downtown Welcome Center Now Open

It’s been more than a decade since Detroit has had a Welcome Center. More than a decade since there’s been a place where out-of-towners and locals could go to ask questions, find out about museums or nightlife or just pick up a map. Now there is a place they can go to do just that, and more.

Located at 1253 Woodward in the Lofts at Merchants Row, the Downtown Welcome Center will provide information on all that Detroit has to offer, including museums, bars and restaurants, city living options, shopping, services, bus routes and much more. It will be staffed by an Inside Detroit specialist who lives, works and plays in Detroit and will be able to give the Insider’s perspective to each inquiry.

The Welcome Center is also going to be an incubator for local creative talent by giving them a place to sell their Detroit creations in a retail setting on Woodward Avenue. Visitors to the Welcome Center will be able to purchase unique items made by Detroiters in Detroit.

The Downtown Welcome Center will be open 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday.

Educating the public about Detroit’s history, culture and livability through customized tours that showcase Detroit as a preferred destination to live, work and play.

Detroit is an amazing city. With its vibrant nightlife, world-class museums, championship sports teams and unparalleled architecture, it's no wonder the New York Times named Detroit one of the 53 Places to Go in 2008. Join us on a tour to discover why many call Detroit, “one of the nation’s best kept secrets.”

Inside Detroit will take you on a Detroit Outing unlike any tour or pub-crawl you've ever been on. Every outing is specially designed for each group. Whether it’s martini bars, theaters, shops or all three, Inside Detroit will create an experience that will make you feel like an Insider. The guide will not only take you to places you never knew you always wanted to go, but will introduce you to doormen, owners and regulars along the way.

You want to know Detroit’s history and architecture? We've got that covered, too. The Insider Guide can tell you which church is the oldest, where the great public art is or who designed the David Stott Building.

Whatever you want to know... wherever you want to go... all you have to do is go Inside Detroit.
